Booksmith celebrates 50 years
In 1961, the hottest thing in book sales was the paperback, and Brookline’s iconic Paperback Booksmith opened its doors. Soon it added hardcovers, gift cards, and author readings, among other attractions (and changed the name to Brookline Booksmith). Most recently, it debuted on Facebook, began offering online sales and e-books, and will soon unveil a print on-demand service. To celebrate its half-century, the Harvard Street bookstore will offer 20 percent off on a different item each day this week, culminating with paperbacks next Sunday.
