A former mayoral candidate has been sentenced to one year of probation following his guilty plea in Salem Superior Court late last month. Israel Reyes pleaded guilty to one count of larceny of property under $250 after admitting that between March 2004 and March 2010, he directed designers employed by the Lawrence public schools to provide him with graphic design services, printing materials, and copies of political campaign literature, as well as other personal documents. Reyes, 38, also has been ordered to stay away from Lawrence public school properties. Reyes was one of three men indicted last year with former Lawrence school superintendent Wilfredo Laboy, who is slated for trial Nov. 29 on several related charges. - Karen Sackowitz ![]()
