Brockton is receiving $442,557 to counter youth violence as part of the governor’s Safe and Successful Youth Initiative. The money is in the supplemental state budget and is part of $9.7 million split among 11 communities. Brockton will expand Operation Divinity, a collaboration of police, social workers, and clergy that supports at-risk youth and their families, and YouthBuild Brockton will receive funds to bring work skills, GED training, and college access to high school dropouts. New efforts include a GED program for youth in the Project Safe Corners street outreach program, a father-training program, and providing families of violent crime victims with support from social workers and homicide bereavement specialists.
