Dracut
A Dracut man heads to court Nov. 28 to face charges that he used an elderly neighbor’s credit card to fund shopping sprees and gambling trips to Foxwoods and Rockingham Park. James Hughes, 51, allegedly racked up nearly $50,000 in charges when his 83-year-old neighbor was temporarily living in a nursing home. Hughes gained access to the credit and debit cards when the victim asked him to run some errands for her that she was unable to do herself. The credit card charges, which allegedly occurred between March 2009 and January 2010, were discovered by the victim’s niece and nephews while they were sorting through her finances. Hughes now faces multiple counts of larceny and credit card fraud.
