Maureen Noone knew that it would be difficult for her Andover High field hockey team to repeat as Division 1 state champion.

She tweaked her strategy and played with her lineup all season before it was just good enough to take down Western Mass. champ Longmeadow 1-0 in the state final last weekend at Worcester State.

“It was harder to repeat as champions because everybody wanted to knock you off,’’ said Noone. “We played hard all season.’’

The work paid off for the 22-0-2 Golden Warriors, who were guided by the experience of their senior class.

Andover made a second-half goal by Julia Leblance (off a feed from Meaghan Keefe) stand up for the win.

“We had only five seniors on the team,’’ said Noone. “They knew how much effort and preparation was needed prior to each game.

“We were pleased and surprised at how well the girls played. We got better and better every game.’’
