Meeting to amend article

Special Town Meeting will convene at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Nissitissit Middle School for another vote on authorizing the town to borrow funds to buy a new ambulance. Town Administrator John Moak said residents approved a similar article at a recent Special Town Meeting, but the wording of the motion was not correct. The new meeting is being held to amend the motion, he said. The original article gave the town the authority to borrow $165,000 only if voters at the town election in the spring approve temporarily raising property taxes to pay off the debt. But if the Proposition 2 1/2 debt-exclusion override is rejected at the polls, Moak said, the town wants the authority to still borrow the money but without raising taxes.
