ALS fund-raiser at country club

The annual George and Cynthia Mazareas Gathering of Friends to benefit ALS research is scheduled for Saturday at Nahant Country Club. The event, which last year raised about $50,000, will feature casino games such as roulette and blackjack as well as a live auction, raffles, food, and cocktails. The benefit raises money for Prize4Life, a nonprofit dedicated to accelerating the discovery of treatments and cures for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. George Mazareas, a former professional basketball player in Greece and a former member of the Lynn School Committee, has lived with the disease since 2002.
