New harbormaster hired

Bion Pike, the harbormaster in Kittery, Maine, has been hired for the town’s position by the Board of Selectmen and Town Administrator Wayne Melville. Pike was one of three finalists interviewed by the board, the Harbor Advisory Committee, and a citizen advisory panel put together for the hiring process. “Everybody was unanimous,’’ Melville said. “He clearly was the best choice.’’ The harbormaster’s job was made an independent position by Town Meeting last spring. The role had previously been part of the duties of the chief of police. Pike will start next month at an annual salary of $68,000. - David Rattigan
