A local organization has awarded $6,010 in grants to support initiatives in Pembroke’s five public schools. Founded in 2003, the nonprofit Pembroke Education Foundation raises private funds that become grants to teachers and other staff for enrichment programs. This year, the group received 15 funding requests totaling $25,958, and 11 of the requests were partially or fully funded. Among the awards were grants for the high school and middle school spring musicals, and literacy materials and enrichment programs at the three elementary schools. There were also grants to enable the high school band to purchase an oboe, and for the middle school to purchase three document cameras and to offer a yoga program and an anti-bullying presentation. For more information on the foundation or to volunteer for the group, go to www.pembrokeeducationfoundation.org or contact Kelly Ross at 781-293-4653. - John Laidler
