De Zutter joins school board

The Board of Selectmen and Upton’s representatives on the Mendon-Upton Regional School Committee have appointed Philip De Zutter to the panel as an interim member. De Zutter is replacing Michelle Goodwin, who resigned from the School Committee in October. The interim seat expires at the end of April, and the full-term position will be filled by voters in the May elections. De Zutter steps into his role in the wake of complaints filed by Goodwin and her husband, alleging that the committee violated the state Open Meeting Law during several sessions. The committee responded last month by acknowledging that “certain specific procedural inconsistencies’’ at its meetings should be addressed. - James O’Brien
