Liquor license transfer
The Board of Selectmen last week approved one small-business expansion proposal and asked for more time to decide on a second proposal. In a 2-to-1 vote, the board approved the transfer of a liquor license that was held by Daisy’s Country Store to New England Farms convenience store on Chase Road. Both businesses are in East Freetown and New England Farms had been turned down before when it had sought a new liquor license for that area, according to Selectwoman Jean Fox. She said a separate proposal to allow Marty Costa of Excel Recycling in Dartmouth to purchase the land occupied by DM Auto Enterprises, a junkyard on Braley Road, and operate a junkyard there was continued to the board’s Dec. 19 meeting. Fox said Costa wants to operate a “modern’’ junkyard that would also recycle appliances, but residents have concerns about noise, traffic, and safety.
