Verizon going door to door
The Police Department has issued an advisory to let residents know that Verizon has received approval to send sales representatives door to door to solicit customers for its FiOS service. They will carry a police-issued identification card with their name, photograph, and the name of the company, according to Chief Paul Gallagher. Verizon spokesman Phil Santoro said a new vendor, Drasco, was hired to go to multiple-dwelling units, such as condominium complexes and apartments. Representatives will be wearing black jackets bearing the names of both companies. Background checks are conducted on the people receiving the ID cards, Gallagher said. Residents also have the option of displaying a “no solicitor” placard that prohibits the sales personnel from ringing the doorbell or knocking on the door, he said. The placards can be picked up at the Police Department or at the town clerk’s office. - Katheleen Conti ![]()
