As the town prepares to celebrate its 300th anniversary next year, schools are getting involved. The committee organizing the yearlong celebration plans to produce five pins for the tercentennial using designs produced by students. Each of Pembroke’s five public schools was asked to come up with a design for a commemorative pin, and contests were organized to select the designs. The high school has opted to have the public select its official entry. Seven designs have been posted on the town’s website, www.pembroke-ma.gov, and residents are invited to vote for their favorites. Meanwhile, the committee is continuing to sell commemorative bricks to help raise funds for the celebration, and to help promote that effort, a free brick will be given to the first Pembroke baby born in 2012. The bricks will be used in a walkway on the town green. - John Laidler
