Officials from the Army Corps of Engineers have briefed the City Council on its plans to build a new Army Reserve Center. The $5.7 million center at 1900 Lafayette Road will replace the Army’s facility on Cottage Street. Plans call for a 20,800-square-foot facility that will house 49 soldiers with Detachment 2, A Company, of the 399th Combat Support Hospital unit, and 38 soldiers with the 378th Minimum Care Detachment. The campus will have a training building with administrative offices, and room for about 10 trucks and some Humvees. The facility is scheduled to open in the spring of 2013. - Tom Long
