Voters elect Curro, Byrne

Local voters added Joseph Curro Jr. and Steven Byrne as new members to the Board of Selectmen and returned two incumbents to the School Committee in Tuesday’s annual election. Curro and Byrne will replace selectwomen Clarissa Rowe and Annie LaCourt, who opted not to run for reelection. Curro, who has been serving on the School Committee, received the most votes with 3,417, while Byrne received 2,805, with former School Committee member Joseph Curran’s 2,706 votes coming in third, according to the town clerk’s office. Robert Tosi Jr. finished fourth with 2,447 votes and Maria Romano rounded out the field of five candidates with 1,431 votes. School Committee member Jeffrey Thielman won a crowded race for two seats on the panel, receiving 3,426 votes. Fellow incumbent Cindy Starks was also reelected with 3,284 votes, beating out James Flanagan, with 2,433 votes; Andrew O’Brien, 1,049 votes; Matthew A. Pallett, 1,402 votes; and Ian Jackson, 445 votes. In the race for assessor, incumbent Kevin Feeley defeated challenger Martin Thrope by a tally of 3,508 to 2,774. A total of 7,441 of the town’s 28,696 registered voters cast a ballot in the election.
