Wompatuck State Park will host the 12th annual Cure Spinal Muscular Atrophy Walk-n-Roll May 19 to help those who have the debilitating genetic disease, which destroys nerves controlling voluntary muscle movement. The event is hosted by Families of SMA, a nonprofit organization founded in 1984 to raise money and help find a cure for the disease. The group has funded more than $53 million in research programs. Registration is open from 9 a.m. to noon. The 1.5-mile walk is on paved paths in the park. The event includes raffles, refreshments, children’s games, and entertainment. - Jessica Bartlett
