Fourth person facing charges in slaying of Revere officer
By Globe Staff
A fourth person is now facing charges in the slaying of a Revere police officer behind the city's high school in late September, Suffolk County prosecutors said.
James Heang, 17, of Revere is facing charges of being an accessory after the fact to murder and unlawfully carrying a firearm.
Three other Revere residents have already pleaded not guilty to charges in the Sept. 29 death of Officer Daniel Talbot.
A grand jury handed up indictments against all four defendants today, moving the case to Superior Court.
Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said the investigation wasn't over. "This is merely one further step in our ongoing efforts to hold accountable those responsible for Officer Talbot's murder," Conley said in a statement.
Robert Iacoviello Jr., 20, faces murder and gun charges; Derek Lodie, 17, faces a charge of being an accessory before the fact; and Gia Nagy, 17, faces a charge of being an accessory after the fact.
Arraignments in Superior Court are slated for next week.
Prosecutors have alleged that Lodie argued with Talbot and other officers who were drinking beer while off duty. Lodie allegedly called friends on his cellphone. Iacoviello allegedly came to the school to assist Lodie and fired the fatal shot. Nagy is charged with helping to dispose of the murder weapon.
District attorney's spokesman Jake Wark had no comment on Heang's alleged role in the case.
Heang's Boston attorney, Willie Davis, said he had no comment because he hadn't seen the indictment.
