Man pleads not guilty to indecent assault on Green Line

A 60-year-old Newton man accused of groping high school girls on the MBTA’s Green Line pleaded not guilty today to indecent assault and battery and gross lewdness.
Jeffrey N. Berman was arrested Friday. He surrendered after police publicized a cellphone photograph taken by a Boston Latin School junior who said that she was molested by a man on the subway.
Berman was charged with one count of indecent assault and battery and two counts of open and gross lewdness in Boston Municipal Court. He was released on $10,000 cash bail.
The assault charge stems from an incident that occurred in November 2006, police said. On Sept. 7 of this year, Berman also exposed himself on the train, police said.
The 16-year-old student told the Globe she was molested by the man and decided to take action on her own behalf and for other Latin students.
