A Cape Cod teenager has been charged with child abuse after a 1-year-old boy was found with bruises, a bite mark, and cigarette burns on his ears and the sole of one foot, according to a release from the Dennis Police Department.

Anthony A. Delman, 19, is scheduled to be arraigned today in Orleans District Court on six counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a child resulting in serious injury. Delman is not related to the alleged victim, who is expected to recover fully from his injuries.

According to police, the child’s mother brought him to the home in Dennisport where Delman lives with his girlfriend on the evening Dec. 7. After dinner, the child was placed in a crib in Delman’s bedroom. While the mother slept on a couch in the living room, Delman allegedly assaulted the child during the night, police said.

Three days later the child's father picked up his son from the mother’s home in Dennisport and noticed bruising on his face, shoulder, and buttocks. The father took his son to the Dennis Police Department.

At Cape Cod Hospital, doctors found an apparent human bite mark on the child’s left foot, police said. Burns consistent with the tip of a lit cigarette were found on the sole of the child’s right foot, right ear lobe, and behind each ear, police said.

The Department of Social Services took custody of the child at the hospital, police said.
