Former Suffolk County chief murder prosecutor joins Boston law firm
David Meier, who led the homicide unit in Suffolk County for 11 years, today joined a Boston law firm known for trial work. He is joining Todd &Weld, a 40-lawyer firm.
“It’s a match made in heaven,’’ said J. Owen Todd, one of the firm’s top attorneys, said today. “We are just a bunch of guys who like to try cases. He’s a consummate trial lawyer who has ethical values without parallel. He’s real old school.’’
Meier, who has spent a total of 25 years as a prosecutor in Suffolk and Middlesex counties, said he was looking forward to joining the private sector. "I am grateful for the opportunity to join a group of such highly skilled and highly regarded trial attorneys,'' he said.”I look forward to learning from them and becoming part of their trial team.''
Among the high profile cases Meier handled while in Suffolk was pushing to throw out the first degree murder conviction of Marlon Passley for the 1995 shooting death of 18-year-old Tennyson Drakes.
Passley's conviction was upheld on appeal. He likely would have died in prison if Meier had not acted on evidence uncovered in the late 1990s that implicated another man as the killer, officials have said.
