A Boston public schools program for training new teachers and a state program that streamlines the paperwork involved in affordable housing development have been selected as finalists in a Harvard-sponsored contest for innovation in government.
The Teacher Residency program and the MassDocs program are among 15 finalists selected from a pool of nearly 1,000 applicants for the 2008 Innovations in American Government Award.
In June, the finalists will present their innovations to a national selection committee. In September, six winners will receive awards of $100,000, the Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School said this morning in a statement.
"We are pleased to recognize these model initiatives of governments that are making a tangible difference in the lives of our citizens," Stephen Goldsmith, director of the awards program, said in a statement.
