Already been through two or three thunderstorms today? It may not be over yet.
The National Weather Service says showers and scattered thunderstorms will persist through the evening in Massachusetts and then gradually fade overnight. But lightning and heavy downpours remain a possible hazard.
A flood watch remains in effect in central and eastern Massachusetts until 2 a.m. Friday.
By the time the storm, which began Wednesday morning, ends, 1 to 3 inches of rain will have fallen on most of Massachusetts, with some areas getting 4 to 5 inches, said William Babcock, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
Babcock said Ashburnham was one of the wettest places in the state, with 4.8 inches falling there as of late this afternoon. About 1.75 inches had been recorded at Logan International Airport.
Massachusetts dodged a bullet. A violent storm killed one person in southeast New Hampshire today. The weather service said it will investigate Friday whether that was a tornado.
