A Lynn police officer was seriously injured after two marked police cruisers collided at an intersection early this morning as they responded to an emergency call.
Officer Gregory Leblanc had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Jaws of Life. He was flown to Brigham and Women’s Hospital with what police called “significant injuries.”
The driver of the second cruiser, Lieutenant Christopher Reddy, was treated for minor injuries and released from Salem Hospital.
The force of the impact was so great that Leblanc’s vehicle ended up on top of Reddy’s.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Western Avenue at about 12:45 a.m. Both officers were responding to reports of other officers on foot, chasing a suspect with a handgun near Verona Street.
The crash is under investigation by state and local police. The suspect got away.
