An 18-month-old girl was injured last night when she fell 30 to 40 feet from a window of her family's apartment, police said.

Francy Paulino apparently pushed on the screen and it gave way. She was listed in grave condition this morning at Massachusetts General Hospital, said Lawrence Police Detective Thomas Cuddy.

Paulino's mother, Josefina Martinez, 49, was on the apartment’s front porch when her child fell from the second-floor window at around 7:20 p.m., he said.

Cuddy said Lawrence Police are investigating the incident, along with State Police detectives assigned to the Essex County District Attorney's office.

Lawrence Police have notified the Department of Social Services and they are also conducting an independent investigation, Cuddy said.
