A North Attleboro man was severely injured early this morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 southbound in Plainville.

Nicholas Cootes, 20, was in serious condition at Rhode Island Hospital after the accident, which happened at about 2:40 a.m., State Police said.

State Police said a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck went off the highway to the left, then reentered the road and rolled over before coming to stop in the center travel lane.

Cootes, the passenger in the car, wasn't wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. He was ejected from the car, police said.

Matthew Bimberg, 20, of Medway, the driver of the car, suffered only minor injuries. He faces charges that include driving under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation, said Lieutenant Eric Anderson, a State Police spokesman.
