Thunderstorms expected to rumble through state
By Globe Staff
Keep an eye out for those dark clouds on the horizon! Thunderstorms bearing lightning, damaging winds, and large hail may rumble into the state this afternoon and evening, weather forecasters say.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. The storms might get even worse in the next few days, the forecasters noted.
The bright side to those dark clouds? The storms might provide some respite from the heat. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s this afternoon. Just before 3 p.m., the temperature at Boston's Logan International Airport was 92.
Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino says the city is offering residents a reprieve at the city's air-conditioned community centers. Menino says people should enjoy the summery weather, but be safe while doing so.
