Boston police are investigating an early-morning shooting that killed a 28-year-old woman.
Police believe the woman and a 27-year-old man were shot at about 2:25 a.m. on River Street in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood.
The woman and man drove to Carney Hospital at about 2:40 a.m. She had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead. The man, who was known to police, was shot in the arm; his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
It was the 30th homicide this year in Boston. At the same time last year, the city had 37 homicides, police said.
