About 3,800 homes and businesses remain without power in Winthrop this afternoon after a mechanical problem in a substation, an electric company spokeswoman said.
National Grid spokeswoman Jackie Barry said the power went off at about 8:30 a.m. Crews are working on the problem.
Barry said the problem was caused by a part in an electrical substation transformer and crews are working to repair it.
She said repairs should be finished somewhere between 8 p.m. and midnight.
