A 43-year-old man accused of kidnapping his 2-year-old daughter from a Chicopee day-care center turned himself in today in Goldsboro, N.C., police said.

Joel Brown, who resides at least part-time with his mother in Goldsboro, brought Justice Rose Brown unharmed to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office this morning, Wayne County Detective Sergeant Richard Farfour said.

Brown allegedly took his daughter from her mother’s car at The Arbors Kids day-care center Wednesday evening, before he fled down Memorial Drive and onto the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Massachusetts and New York state police denied Chicopee authorities’ request for an Amber Alert late Wednesday night.

North Carolina issued an Amber Alert for the 2-year-old sometime late Thursday night or early Friday morning, Farfour said.

If Brown decides not to fight extradition at a hearing Monday, he will be returned to Massachusetts, where he faces kidnapping charges, police said. He will not face charges in North Carolina, Farfour said.
