Belmont blaze hits next door to fire station
By Anne Baker, Globe Correspondent
Belmont firefighters only had to take a short trip to a three-alarm fire blaze this morning – it was right out their back door.
Firefighters were alerted to the fire in a two-family home at 25/27 Flett Road at 4 this morning, said Belmont Fire Chief David Frizzell. The building is about 100 feet from the fire station.
The fire was extinguished roughly two hours later. One of the building’s four residents was taken to the hospital with minor injuries; no one else was hurt, Frizzell said.
The building sustained extensive damage to its attic and back porches, Frizzell said. Damage is estimated at $300,000.
The two buildings are so close, Frizell said, that the fire station also sustained some damage to its ventilation system when it sucked in some of the smoke.
“The fire station smells like a fire,” he said.
