The National Governors Association today announced that Boston will host the nation’s governors for its annual meeting in 2010, providing Governor Deval Patrick with a major platform to showcase Massachusetts.
The meeting, which is scheduled to take place July 9-12, is one of the largest bipartisan gatherings of governors, allowing them to swap ideas.
“I am honored that my fellow governors have selected Massachusetts as the site of the 2010 Annual Meeting and thrilled for the opportunity to showcase all that this wonderful state has to offer,” Patrick said in a statement.
This marks the fifth time that the annual meeting has been held in Boston. Past meetings were held in 1915, 1941, 1978, and 1994.
“NGA meetings are the most important bipartisan forums in political leadership today, and we are excited to be gathering in Boston for our 2010 Annual Meeting,” Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, chairman of the governors' association, said in a statement. “NGA meetings offer governors of all political parties the opportunity to sit down together to focus on solutions and ideas that improve state government and strengthen the federal-state partnership.”
The annual meeting draws about 1,200 attendees and is one of two official meetings held each year. The winter meeting takes place in Washington, D.C. The next Annual Meeting will be held in Biloxi, Mississippi, July 17-20, 2009.
