The body of a former Truro selectman was found in Provincetown Harbor near Cabral’s Pier early this morning.

Robert Martin, 72, was found between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., said Provincetown Police Chief Jeff Jara.

“It appears now to just have been an unfortunate accident,” said Jaran. “It was at night at Cabral’s Pier,” he said. “There are always hazards navigating a pier out there.”

Jaran said witnesses had reported seeing Martin walking on the public beach near the wharf before his fully-clothed body was found.

"We believe alcohol was involved," Jaran said. "Obviously, there will be an autopsy done."

The cause of Martin’s death is still under investigation, Jaran said. Truro is adjacent to Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod.
