A Peabody man died today of injuries suffered during a confrontation with police at his home on Monday, prosecutors said.

Philip Noto Sr., 55, who wielded a starter pistol during the incident, died at Salem Hospital of complications from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Noto was arraigned Monday at Peabody District Court on a charge of threatening to commit a crime and was freed after posting $750 bail. He posted bail and was released on condition he abide by a restraining order obtained by his wife. At noon, police were notified that he was at his home on Washington Street, in violation of the order.

A sergeant and two patrol officers responded. One shot was fired by Officer Richard Cochran.

The district attorney's office said it was investigating the incident.
