A 17-year-old West Roxbury high school student was shot this morning in Dorchester near the Ashmont MBTA station, apparently on his way to school.
The boy was taken to Boston Medical Center with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries. The shooting occurred at 6:40 a.m. on Fuller Street several houses from Dorchester Avenue, near Peabody Square. It was not far from where dozens of high school students were waiting for buses and trains.
"I heard pow, pow, pow," said Dexter Miller, manager of Massachusetts Local Telephone Co. on Fuller Street.
Transit police arrived on the scene moments after the shooting.
"They were yelling, 'Get down! Get down!'" Miller said. "At first, I thought it was a truck that ran something over or dropped something."
Investigators used orange cones to mark what appeared to be bullet casings on Fuller Street. A jacket and a baseball hat were also on the ground at the scene. Police were searching for a four-door, gold-colored Oldsmobile.
Two separate, unrelated shootings also occurred overnight. A 20-year-old man was shot on Stockton Street in Dorchester at 11.25 p.m. He was taken to Boston Medical Center in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Shortly before midnight, gunfire struck three men near the intersection of Maple and Nazing streets in Roxbury, police said. The victims, who were 18, 20, and 27 years old, were all taken to Boston Medical Center with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Boston Public Schools released a statement confirming that the student attended the West Roxbury Education Complex.
"No other students were harmed during this incident," the statement said. "The Boston Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation. Classes took place as usual at the complex today, and additional staff were on hand to support students."
