Somerville police released a sketch today of a man who sexually assaulted a woman beneath an underpass earlier this month near Porter Square.

The suspect was described as a white male, about 6 feet tall, with light brown hair, wearing jeans and a baseball cap. He also has a large mole on his left cheek. The man was riding an old bicycle. Police have warned joggers and others walking in the Porter Square neighborhood to be on the alert.

During the evening of Sept. 10, the woman was jogging near the intersection of Sacramento and Beacon streets when she was attacked, according to Captain Paul Upton, police spokesman.

Police alerted 3,000 Porter Square residents by telephone on Monday and are working with the Cambridge and Harvard University police because the assault was close to university buildings and the city line, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Somerville police at 617-625-1212.
