School employee arrested with gun in Dorchester
By Maria Cramer, Globe Staff
Police arrested an employee at the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School in Dorchester this morning after he allegedly brought a handgun to work.
James Jackson, 30, was taken into custody this morning at the school on Columbia Road, said a police spokeswoman, Elaine Driscoll. Classes were not in session and no students were in the school at the time.
Police did not say where they found the gun. Two sources with knowledge of the investigation described Jackson as a paraprofessional, which is described on the Boston Public Schools website as an employee who helps "support teaching and learning." Working as a paraprofessional can be a path to becoming a full-time certified teacher.
