An Ohio police officer visiting Boston with his wife and two daughters tried in vain to stop a thief who allegedly stole his car as the family was unloading luggage at a hotel near Andrew Square.

The officer mistook the thief for a valet and left the keys in the Dodge, according to a police report. The alleged thief floored the accelerator, and the Ohio officer grabbed onto the car and tried to stop him, the report said. The officer held on for a short distance and tumbled to the ground in the parking lot of the Courtyard Marriott hotel on Boston Street.

The officer, whose name was not released, was treated at Boston Medical Center for scrapes on his right hand, shoulder, and knee, police said in the report. The suspect, identified as Ricardo Feliciano Jr., fled toward Andrew Station, and the van was later located.

Police arrested Feliciano a short time later after he allegedly rang a doorbell on Dorchester Avenue, pulled a gun on a resident, stole a Jeep Liberty from the property, and fled toward Columbia Road.

Feliciano was stopped and taken into custody. No one was injured in the second theft.

At his arrangement today in South Boston District Court, Feliciano was ordered held on $200,000 cash bail.

  1. What they don't report here is that the gun Feliciano pulled on the resident belonged to the Police Officer owner of the stolen van. He negligently allowed his service weapon to fall into the hands of a criminal. Shouldn't the police officer be arrested as well?

  1. I'm sorry I missed the part were the officer put the gun in the criminals hand and made him use it. Feliciano had a choice. To steal the van or not to steal the van, to go through the stuff that he stole or not to go through it. To use the gun or not to use it. There is a common theme here. This guy made bad decisions and he has no one else to blame but himself .. but then it is always easier to blame someone else isn't it.
