A stealth write-in campaign for Wilkerson?
By Andrew Ryan, Globe Staff
Embattled Democratic state Senator Dianne Wilkerson may have ended her sticker campaign, but her name was still visible today at some polling places in Roxbury.
Taped over the blue signs of her challenger, a white flier asked: "What happened to innocent until proven guilty?" It urged voters to "write in Dianne Wilkerson."
The fliers outside Orchard Gardens Community Center covered the name of Sonia Chang-Diaz, a former schoolteacher who narrowly beat Wilkerson in the Democratic primary. Wilkerson, a 15-year incumbent, had been running a sticker campaign until she was charged last week with accepting $23,500 in bribes in a federal corruption probe.
Wilkerson announced on Friday that she was ending her write-in campaign, but she resisted mounting pressure to resign from the Senate. Wilkerson said she would make an announcement on Wednesday regarding whether she will leave office before her term ends in January.

I'm amazed the people of Roxbury still want this woman representing them. She is innocent until proven guilty, no question, but even to have put herself into this position implies she is unfit for the privilege of being state senator.
Innocent until proven guilty ... or caught on film! Give me a break. What more proof do they need than the pics of her sticking fistfuls of cash up her shirt?
Yeah, I agree wobanos. I respect her constituents for supporting Wilkerson the person, but supporting Wilkerson the politican seems reckless and self-serving.
Dianne, say good bye and leave town, with your departure, maybe property values in Roxbury will go up. Oh yeah, take your posse with you
As the old saying goes: A picture is worth a thousand words..... None-the-less SIX...
Innocent until proven guilty - yes, but based on the evidence I have seen, she is definitely guilty. Time to give it up Diane.
Chill people. Dianne will get a few sympathy votes, that's all.
Under the constitution, innocent until proven guilt only applies to what happens in a court of law when someone is charge with a crime. The public has every right to make general assumptions about her guilt or innocence. There are photos of her taking wads of money and stuffing them in her bra. Anyone who thinks she is worthy to serve is unworthy to vote.
This cockroach is unbelievable; do they not sell bug spray in Roxbury?
What ever happened to personal integrity? Dianne Wilkerson has no respect for the office or the people she is supposed to represent to even think about staying in office. Nixon got caught but respected the office and left. (oops he was a Republican) the reputation of politcians is only as good as the worst of them. As the saying goes politicians are like diapers both should be changed often and for the same reason.
As the old saying goes: A picture is worth a thousand words. None-the-less SIX!!!
VOTE YES ON #1.
SEND A MESSAGE THAT THEIR WASTEFUL WAYS ARE OVER.
Wilkerson is guilty. Anyone who thinks she is not guility is blinded by their love of her color, gender, corruption or something? Come on Wilkerson supporters!!! Wake up. She is a criminal. She was caught on camera putting bribe money in her bra. She will be convicted, unless the jury is as blind as you are. It makes you wonder what she has done that wasn't caught on camera?? Her citizenship should be taken away and she should be deported to a country like Mexico where corruption is rampant. She will fit in well there. Anyone that supports corruption like this can go live there too. I hear the water's great down there.
What crime does she have to commit for them to stop voting for her? Does she have to be caught committing murder in a room full of her entire black caucus? She's suspended everything. If she felt so innocent, why would she stop? Even if you forgive her past indescretions, she's going to get nailed for perjury on top of this FBI arrest. She's done and people will still be voting for her. They're not BEING screwed, they are screwing themselves!
If the people of Roxbury ever complain again about getting "no respect" from the city and its government, let them remember the idiots and morons who continue to support DW. The voters of Roxbury sure are living up to their reputation for being ignorant. Even before the latest charges, the fact that the primary was even close is disgraceful. Of course she deserves her due process, but DW is going to jail people... the clink... and some of you still will vote for her??
How many virtuous black candidates did she quash to remain in office?
The good news is this can only bring more light into the political process. The bad news is there are fewer flashlights out there.
Wilkerson saw the demographic writing on the wall and had to resort to payola as a source of power.
I agree with the general idea it is time to move on. However, people may just be sending a message with a non-Sonia vote (blank or a write-in for another name) because they want Sonia to work hard for it... not just take an easy road. People are scared they will be treated badly again and they will not trust again so soon. Happy election day - and remember... every vote counts and is only up to the person who casts it.
Not all people in Roxbury support Diane Wilkerson. It is only a small few that believes she deserves another chance, but the majority of people in Roxbury have no sympathy for her.
Remember Marion Barry?
Covering an opponent's signs indicates the level of respect she/her supporters have for the political process.
Nothing happened to "innocent until proven guilty; " Ms. Wilderson has withdrawn (admittedly, under pressure) so she is not a candidate for re-election. [Her name would not have been on the ballot anyway because she did not get the required number of signatures in on time.] One can still write her name in, as one can write in anyone's name, but let's not suggest that there is a connection between not having her name on the ballot and a lack of the presumption of innocence.
DW has been a criminal for years. She has proven time and time again she believes the rules do not apply to her. Go ahead vote for DW then when she is tried in a court of law & sent to jail you'll be having another election to fill her spot. It is funny to see all those people who talked about how great she is for Roxbury now running as far away as possible. Now if we can only get the FBI to work on Dimasi!
Give her the benifit of doubt, lets says shes NOT QUILTY so what SHE LOST IN THE PRIMARY!! No other candidate just keeps running until they win. She just does not get it SHE already lost give the winner her chance please. Her arrogance has stirred up people more than the lies and bribes she took.Vote YES ON QUESTION ONE!!!

I'm a black voter, who is a registered democrat, and voted Sonia Chang-Diaz. I believe in progressive views and the highest standard of measure for elected public officials. REGARDLESS of race, gender, or religion. Its a shame that the Globe insinuates and some readers assume, that all blacks are supporters of Wilkerson. That Roxbury/Dorchester = Black and that Black = Full Wilkerson support. Untrue!! Wilkerson has managed to fool some of her constituents most of the time, but not all. If they hadn't learned already, most responsible citizens wised-up when they saw her stuffing cash up her shirt. The people who are voting for Wilkerson today are 'fans', not responsible citizens.
Um... Yeah... Innocent until proven guilty doesn't really count if you're caught on camera doing it multiple times by a Federal Agent or at least people working with Federal Agents. She's guilty. Get over it and vote for someone who will do the community some good.
Sonia woke up and smelled the coffee a long time ago. She realized the district needed better representation and thought she could do the job.
Sonia took on the daunting task of running against an incumbent two years ago, and won the primary when DW messed up her nomination papers. She lost the election on a sticker campaign.
Sonia won the primary again this year head to head and fair and square. She deserves the job. And she is going to get it. No question in my mind.
I think she deserves everything coming to her> how can someone who 's suppse to be for the community abuses the community and power ( I think there are plenty more like her > but we have yet to catch up to them we need more people of character and not one's who are out to abuse power to make a quick buck.
The people who think Ms Swillkerson is "innocent until proven guilty" are the same people who are voting for Obama.....because he's a black man! This piece of swill has been doing whatever the hell she wants since 1992 and what's even worse is she just thinks she's entitled. In her warped mind she is taking bribes and not paying taxes because if she's not going to get her 40 acres and her mule she's going to steal it! And if these "fans" thinks she gives a crap about them or their needs because she is a black woman that represents them well they better wake up and smell the swill for what she really is.
