Eight young women and men with ties to New England were chosen to be Rhodes Scholars for next year.

Harvard University boasted the most recipients among New England-based colleges: three.

In all, the Rhodes Trust named 32 recipients. The scholarships pay for two or three years of study at Oxford University in England. The Rhodes Trust selected the recipients on Saturday at regional competitions across the nation. The students will head to Oxford next October.

The two MIT students are Matthew L. Gethers III of Waterbury, Conn., and Alia Whitney-Johnson of Leicester, N.C.

Harvard’s students are Malorie N. Snider of Friendswood, Texas; Kyle Q. Haddad-Fonda of Issaquah, Wash; and Julia Parker Goyer of Birmingham, Ala.

  1. Good luck to all these hard working students. They deserve this type of recognition for all the effort and work they put into the academic careers. Those who sow, will reap the rewards of their efforts.

  1. I'm not from MIT but I think that's only 5 recipients. Could you please give us the names and current schools of the other 3 Rhodes Scholars from New England?
