Shea, 21, was a cavalry scout with Killer Troop, Third Squadron, Third Armored Cavalry Regiment out of Fort Hood, Texas. He had been in Iraq for a year and his tour of duty was to expire in January.
He died near the city of Mosul when he and other soldiers with his unit were shot at by a renegade soldier with possible ties to Al Qaeda. One other soldier was killed and six were injured. The Iraqi soldier was shot dead.

God bless this young hero and his family during this difficult time, We do not thank our military enough for giving their lives to maintain the freedom that the average US citizen assumes will always be there. My prayers are extended to this hero's family.
God bless this young hero is right. He is a soldier of god now and will watch over his family and friends. I am so sorry for his family to have to suffer such a loss, but they should be proud of the service he performed for his country and loved ones.
God Bless all the Armed Services Men and Women from the always loyal and great state of Massachusetts. I am proud to have been a resident of this great state for 12 years. Never did I see a New Englander not anwser the call of duty. My heart goes out to this young mans family and to all families whos sons and daughter have paid the ultimate price.
