Internal Revenue Service agents raided a strip club on Thursday in Salisbury owned by the Methuen superintendent of parks and recreation as well as the man's home.

Methuen Mayor William M. Manzi 3d said today the city is waiting to see what, if anything happens, in the investigation into the affairs of Kevin G. Moury, before deciding whether to take action against the longtime city employee.

“The IRS went to his business and to his home, of that there is no doubt,” Manzi said in a telephone interview. “But what that means, and what they’re looking at, is not known to the city.”

Moury did not return messages left at his club, Kittens, or at his home in Methuen. The IRS said it is legally barred from commenting.

Moury served on the Methuen City Council from 1988 to 1992 and then in various public works positions in the city, tending to cemeteries, trees, and parks. In 2004, he and his wife, Debbie, opened Kittens.

“It’s hard to have a reaction,” Manzi sad. “We’ll just take a wait-and-see attitude. And having known him for a long time, I certainly hope everything is OK.”

  1. It is amazing that no matter how much wrong a public official does here in MA
they still come out at the top. What I would like to know is how does the average Citizen get these good jobs and all the freebies? You are right only in Massachusetts.

  1. Typical government or public service worker......."mailing it in" at the government job, while making extra $$$ on the side, all the while collecting government medical benefits, some form of pension, while working another job on the side. You New Englander's have to get a clue and fight against these city worker, fire and police unions. Corrupt to the core.

  1. I find this article very disturbing. There is no mention of Police or Attorneys. I am not sure if the IRS can do raids but it is obvious that the local police did not want to have anything to do with this hence why the IRS had to take the job. There is a double standard here, we shouldn't come to a conclusion but the IRS is not the surveiling type. We can come to a conclusion though, Politicians and Businesses do not go together.

  1. IRS can do raids. The local police wouldn't know what they were looking for if this was a tax evasion or other complex white-crime case. This could be a run-of-the-mill tax fraud case, but you need more facts before drawing any conclusions

  1. The IRS does indeed have a law enforcement division, where the special agents are more police officers, who carry guns, than accountants. Whatever they went in there for had to do with some sort of willful tax evasion; odds are some of the police hired to do details for the club, if any, don't report thier under-the-table earnings. It's happened before, it'll surely happen again...

  1. Where there's smoke there's fire. Where there's strip clubs there's corruption. It's well known that strip clubs are not a mom and pop operation. Tribute must be paid to Springfield or Providence.
And how about Mayor Manzi "I certainly hope everything is OK." For who???
Both of you??? Tony Soprano also hopes everything is OK.

  1. Hey Stewart, GFY!
Your probably sitting at home waiting for your EBT deposit on the 1st and the 15th. Enjoying those MassHealth Benefits? Unions are not the problem, its haters like you that are! Perhaps you should have made some better life choices if your so unhappy or jealous with what others have.

  1. "Methuen Mayor William M. Manzi 3d"

It's nice to know he's in 3d. Do you mean 3rd or what?

  1. "3d" is the standard AP style for writing "3rd"

  1. Since he has been raided by IRS, if he is "Let Go, or Resigns", he will in probably get double the pension, for the "Suffering and Shame of being Caught". Poor Baby, probably having to have his girls cover up while the Raid went on. Wonder if he is a Democrat? It PAYS to be a Democrat in MA, just look at Wilkerson, "Mista Speaker", and the Arlington Sex Fiend!
