A driver not wearing a seatbelt was killed this morning on Cape Cod when his pickup truck rolled over on Route 6, State Police said.
The crash occurred at 6:19 a.m. near Exit 6 in Barnstable. The westbound 1997 Ford Ranger veered left and rolled over three times before coming to rest in the median, State Police said in a press release.
The driver was thrown from the truck and died at the scene. Police described the driver as an adult male, but they did not release his name or hometown.

A ford ranger rolling over. who is to say a set belt would have saved him after four rolls.
I a free coutry I salute the man for living free not by Mass insurance state rulers
I realize most people won't bother to read this, but-THANK YOU GLOBE STAFF! More headlines about motor vehicle accidents should include this information. Maybe if when Princes Dianne died the headlines read, "Princess Dies, Mother of 2 not wearing seatbelt, otherwise would be alive" more people would wear theirs and not give me business. As for the pp, yes, he would have most likely lived with a seatbelt because he woudn't have been thrown and landed on his head. It's a free country, don't wear your seatbelt, but then I think you should lie on the pavement after the accident.
I was in a car accident in 1990 and I was wearing a seatbelt. If I didn’t have the seatbelt on, I would’ve gone through the windshield. I did, however, sustain a C1-2 Spinal cord injury. Yet, I could’ve lost my life if I didn’t have the seatbelt on and would’ve gone through the windshield. I would rather go through life with a Spinal cord injury, than to not have my life at all!
hey, pppp
Please...we're all urging you: go out and drive without a seat belt...drive fast, drive recklessly...the sooner the better
Your Right------AND HE WAS DEAD RIGHT TOO
Seat belts save lives...period. Now if that man had life insurance, forget about it.
That makes a lot of sense. Now he's dead and his family has to cope with his loss. Seat belts save lives and lower insurance costs for all of us, not to mention the social security costs associated with supporting his family.
seat belts svae lives. Stats do not lie. Now, if he had life insurance it does not look good.
Yup, pppp. He's free to die and, of course if he doesn't die and only maimed, he's free to live off the support of his family and the state for the rest of his life.
The "poster" above is a bit dumber than a house fly. Seatbelts save lives--period. The driver of the truck was thrown from the vehicle when it rolled over 3 times. A seatbelt would have kept him inside and he very likely would have walked away or had minor injuries. Also, anybody opposed to seatbelt laws is more than welcome to pay for indigent care that motorists/passengers require when they''re hurt in crashes but have no insurance.
You are 25 times more likely to die when being 'thrown clear' than if restrained. I support your right to die, however, and deplete the surplus population.
Unfortunately, this man probably fell asleep and was killed because of it. Whether or not a seatbelt would have saved him we will never know. I do know that it would have given him a chance, and I'm sure his family wishes that he had given himself that chance. When a person doesn't wear a seatbelt and is injured with a brain or spinal cord injury, I'm sure anyone of them that you ask, would say they wished they had worn that seatbelt. What kind of freedom do you think is exercised when you can't go to the bathroom by yourself anymore? Also, who do you think pays for that person's choice financially? You and me.
pppp that 's a really stupid way of looking at things. Do you have teenagers driving? would you feel better if they were following mass insurance laws- giving them a chance of living! or just" living free" and diying young! Us your head
Seat Belts save lives, and as an Adult I should have the right to make that choice. The State has no business to tell me the chance of dying vs the comfort of not wearing a seat belt!!
I lost a brother who's car flipped over twice. He was not wearing a seat and died at the seen after being ejected from his car. The car had barely any damged. He most definately would have lived if he had his seat belt on. Why take the chance - put it on & live. It's that simple. It's also the law.
Omg that guy doesn't know that seat belts are very important and its the law. You are required to wear seat belts in every moving vehicle. Had he worn his seat belt, his life would be saved. Today, most almost many people obey the law and wear their seatbelts.
I feel deeply sorry for his family and friends,as its not a very good news to hear of your family member being killed like that. Ive been a victim myself, coming from rhode island one night after one of my jigs there as im a jamaican dj and just almost the same area i met a bad accident when my tire blew out and the 1998 nissan pathfinder that i was driving flip over but i was lucky to have survived. it was august 3oth and im still in the process of healing ,i damaged my lungs, broke both scapulas and a big chop opened my forehead and my left knee is very week god be with w
my close friend is a firm believer in not wearing his seatbelt. I express to him constabtly that i want to keep him in my life for as long as possible and that a seat belt may help with that in a car accident. Regardless of the stats that i share with him he still admires his personal preference...any suggestions please help~!!
