A man was shot this morning in Carver and taken to a local hospital with what authorities described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was shot at about 10:30 a.m. on South Meadow Road in Carver. An ambulance tended to him just over the town line in Plymouth, taking him to a local hospital, according to the Plymouth Fire Department.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear. Carver Police would not provide any details. A spokeswoman for the Plymouth District Attorney's office said it was a non-fatal shooting that was being handled by Carver Police.

The shooting prompted Carver officials to place its middle and high school in lockdown for several hours, according to Annemarie Metrano, the administrative assistant for the Carver public schools.

A statement sent to parents said no students were hurt in the shooting, which occurred near school property. The schools were placed in lockdown in the "interest of public safety" at the request of the police department, Metrano said.

A statement posted this afternoon on the school district website said that Carver and State Police have deemed it "safe to resume normal operations of the school facilities." Students will be dismissed at the regularly scheduled times.

  1. Guns....the absolute worst invention in the history of mankind, especially considering they are most always in the hands of nitwits.
