What has the cost been to massachusetts citizens?? My sister is a waitress working full time, is a single mom and is told she has to have health insurance, she cant afford to pay for it so she applied for medicaid, was told her waitress salary working full time is too much money so she doesnt qualify. Who paid for this surgery? My sister with her taxes. You bet. Massachusett citizens should demand reimbursement for housing and any other free assistance she received. There is definitely something wrong with our system of government when an illegal immigrant can fight a deportation order. You are here either legally or your not...period. There are a lot of people who would like to come to the USA legally and can't or have to wait. There should be no exceptions. If our system is wrong it should be addressed. If not all illegal immigrants should be dealt with, harshly if necessary.

Candidly, I supported McCain. That said, I have to, in good conscience as both an American and a patriot, support President elect Obama. It is the right thing to do.

What I find galling is that many democrats think that they are 'smarter' and, as such, the rules simply should not apply; particularly when they don't like the result. If we are to be a nation of laws, then Obama's aunt should be deported. Case closed. Obama (can't argue with this because if he does, there is a question whether he can validly take the oath of office). If we are to be a democracy - then people have to respect the process. So, when Californians vote down a legalizing gay marriage, for the second time, then people should respect that too since it is the democratic process. Instead - we immediately have people marching in the streets, disturbing everyone's daily life and ignoring the majority.

What is sad - truly sad - is that we have become so polarized in the rhetoric - and that's all it is - rhetoric -that we cannot see the damage we're doing to ourselves. At one point - there seemed to be public discourse on issues - people with opposing views used to talk with one another about things that mattered. Some times, the discussion allowed people to consider an issue differently - from a different perspective. Oftentimes, people agreed to disagree, but did so with civility, a hand shake or a smile.

That is seldom seen today. Instead, issues are discussed solely in the context of right or wrong, left or right and too often, people equate or perceive such to be an matter of good or evil.

Obama has shown that he can stir within us, all of us, hope and aspirations. I only hope that Obama can show the dogged determination and perseverance to forge that hope into our aspirations for America: an America that affords her citizens with the opportunity (not entitlement), that is respected for its willingness to stand up for what is right, and that is feared by those who would seek to harm her, her citizens or her allies.

Do you think someone who fragrantly breaks the laws of a community should be allowed to remain in that community - unconstrained and unaccountable to those within the community?

Do you believe in the democratic process pursuant to which at the local, state and federal level - citizens are allowed to participate in their own government - to help set a course and then follow it?

Do you believe that America is the land of OPPORTUNITY where you can be anything you want to be through hard work and determination as opposed to a land of ENTITLEMENT where regardless of your actions or level of effort - the government SHOULD GIVE you something?

Do you believe that you should live with and be accountable to the choices you make?

Again, pause for a moment and give those questions serious consideration. You may answer them (particularly the first few) differently than I would. That doesn't make you bad or evil, it just means that you have different views on how the community should be defined. While I may not agree with those views - it doesn't mean that I don't respect them.

I've lived all over America - Virginia, DC, California, and now Massachusetts. I choose to live in Massachusetts because it is home. That said, I have to live with the consequences of that decision. That means I have to deal with state senators who steal and flagrantly commit ethics violations; I have to deal with a governor and legislature that, with respect to a vacant senatorial post, will consider changing the rules AGAIN, not to serve the will of the people, but to suit the goal of their party; I have to deal with a state where the people are willing to continue paying income tax to people who lack accountability as opposed to paying property tax to people who would be directly accountable - on a local level - to their neighbors. I'm comfortable with this because it was my choice and I know, at some point, people will take a moment to look around and think about whether what is going on reflects how they want their community to operate.

Ultimately - I recognize that the people have to weigh in. That is, by its nature, the democratic process - the self determination that America stands for. If, as an individual, I stand at odds with the collective views - then I can take one of three courses - (i) respect the process but continue to dialogue about my views and thoughts, (ii) not respect the process - and disrupt and aggitate without regard to the community and those around us, or (iii) leave. As a patriot and an America - I choose (i) because I have hope for and believe in America.

Again, take a moment to think - critically - about these questions. They are - at the very core of what defines our community and country

There is a line on the 1040 form where you can add any additional money you would like to donate to the federal government for them to give away as they see fit. If you haven't donated any extra, quit trying so hard to spend my money, taken from me at gunpoint, to give to thieves, illegal or otherwise. Yes, taken from me at gunpoint. Try not paying taxes, and see if they don't send gun toting enforcers to your door.
