Shadon Tucker returned home safely tonight when he ran into a police officer in the South End, Boston police said.

“He’s been found, safe and sound,” Boston police spokesman James Kenneally said.

Boston police were asking for the public's help in finding the 12-year-old Dorchester boy who had been missing since he left for school on Monday morning.

Tucker's parents say they last saw him Monday at about 6:50 that morning, leaving their home on Norfolk Street. School officials later called them to tell them that he had never shown up.

  1. I hope you find your son safe and sound. I will keep you in my thoughts.

  1. This is a missing child!! Why isn't this on the front page so everyone will notice and take action instead of buried on one of your side banners???!?!

Posted by Renee November 11, 08 02:30 PM
  1. Why is this information not shown on the network stations. I'm sure nobody would care if Jerry Springer or Judy Joe Brown got interrupted!!!!

  1. 1 - he is not white.
2 - he is from Dorchester.
How often do we see this? How much coverage did that rich white girl get who was taken from Back Bay?
Maybe there is more to the story, like they know who he is with or he ran away. But, I am a cynic and bet it's because of 1 and 2 above. sad, sad, sad.

  1. PUT THIS AS A LEAD STORY ON THE MAIN PAGE!!!!!!!!
What is WRONG with you, Boston.com?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?1/

  1. TO GLOBE STAFF:

As a fellow journalist, I would like to voice my disappointment in your service to the local community on this topic in particular. If this does not change soon, you will be exposed for your RACIST bias. If this was a white child, you certainly would be covering this as a front page story.

As the LEADING LOCAL PUBLICATION, your first priority should be to SERVE THE LOCAL COMMUNITY.

  1. Because it doesn't have a pay per click advertiserment sponsor on the front page .When you click on the amber alert they won't make money from it. its all about getting paid from the sponsors...and it's deplorable. Trust me when they find a way to profit from someones pain and anguish it will get better press.

  1. Never mind the racist stuff. Put this on the front page.. where is the Amber alert on this poor kid.

  1. Add my voice to the choir. Shame on you for not putting this in a more prominent place. We gotta find this kid

  1. An Amber alert is only issued is there is a vehicle involved, it is for the car, not the child.
I agree that this should be on the front page.

  1. Criteria for Issuing an AMBER Alert

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three basic criteria must be met before the State Police will activate the plan:
    A child under the age of 17 years has been abducted;
The child is in danger of serious bodily harm, injury or death; and
There is enough descriptive information to believe that an Amber Alert may help locate the child.
This story should have a more prominent display on Boston.com.

  1. There are quite a lot of missing children/ missing person reports every day. Because this isn't front page news has nothing to do with rascism.

That white girl in Plainville who was found dead after a drinking party didn't make the news until she was found. I wonder if that was because the media was practicing reverse rascism?

    Grow up.
If you feel so strongly about this, then go out and look for him instead of crying wolf online.

  1. May you be safe at home soon young man.
Lord watch over him and ease his parents hearts by bringing him home!!

  1. It is really good to see that readers are disappointed with how this story is covered. I also agree with these posts. This boy is 12!!! With so much hype about the dispraportionate media coverage of missing children when it comes to race and wealth, the Globe has implicitly maintained the status quo. Get it together!!

  1. Leave it to people to turn it in to a racist thing, you know what just pray for the child ok never mind that " he is black that's why he is not on the cover". Don't turn minds to the racist just hope they find him no matter what is skin color is.

  1. If he were a pretty white girl you'd have this front and center on the front page, not as a link on the left.

  1. Where is the Amber Alert????

Posted by Chauncy November 11, 08 04:22 PM
  1. this is gross. why isnt this on the news? i totally agree with everyone else that this has to be due to a racial bias. and in the case with the rockefeller girl, chances are he just wanted to be with his daughter and was not going to harm her...this poor kid probably REALLY needs the Amber Alert and instead is getting unfair treatment. DEPLORABLE.

Posted by rachel November 11, 08 04:25 PM
  1. What the hell is going on here? Why is there not an Amber Alert for this child?

    Posted by A father November 11, 08 04:28 PM
  1. Another distinction is that this is a case of a missing child. The Rockerfeller/Gerhartsreiter case involved a known kidnapping, and the use of a vehicle. As A Wins pointed out, Amber Alerts only occur when a vehicle is involved.

I think that "sad" and Hilary Dyer are also being quick to justify their own biases by accusing the Globe of having them as well. Yes, I would prefer that this be a front-page story; but as "sad" admits, there may yet be more to this story.

Posted by Muskie in Dot November 11, 08 04:35 PM
  1. They'll only issue an Amber Alert if there is a vehicle? I doubt that is true.
Hopefully there is a good reason, and has nothing to do with race or the town he is from.

  1. Shame on everyone involved in the publishing of this story. This should be on front page, where everyone could see it, and help with the necessary informaiton in order to find this young boy.
You must not be parents, to not realize the pain that his mother must be going thru.
Shaydon, honey I hope you come home soon to your Mom.

  1. This is really sad and what is also sad is that our community has to start doing for ourselves when it comes to everything that has to do with our kids. The little boy has been missing since yesterday morning and this is the first I have time I have seen this. I have opened Boston.com maybe 20 times today, being my home page and it is disgusting. I hope the child is safely returned home and to the people of our community I hope that this awakens us.

Posted by lou November 11, 08 04:45 PM
  1. For humanity's sake give this more prominent coverage on BOSTON.COM
    AND
PLEASE challenge the local network TV stations to give it prominent position in their news!!

In case you were temporarily lulled into thinking race is not an issue, systemic racism is still alive and flourishing!!!

  1. To PooBear:

This boy lives right around the corner from me. And if possible, i WILL go out and look for him as soon as I get home from work. I have been in touch with my friends living there and they have offered their help as well. The family has been passing out fliers all over the community.

Try living in Dorchester. You know nothing about racism, obviously.

  1. This should be "BREAKING NEWS" on every channel and FRONT AND CENTER in the paper. The sooner this boys photo is out there for everyone to see the better. God bless this child and what must be his frantic parents.

Posted by Onemother November 11, 08 05:17 PM
  1. I concur with ALL posts, save for PooBear's. PooBear I watched the coverage of that girl from Plainville the day after she went missing...and saw the continued coverage when she was found dead. That is all.

Posted by Miss Roberts November 11, 08 05:21 PM
  1. Maybe there is a chance that there is more to the story than is being told.
We are all so very quick to point fingers. The word "racist" is thrown around like the word "and".
What does that word mean to you ,anyway?
Pray for the boy and his family. Keep good thoughts, and be the better person.

  1. OK, I grew up in Dorchester at Ashmont, my mom is still there and has been for over 40 years. Go by the train station at any time during the day and see how many cultures are there. Why does the world evolve the color of ones skin. If we were blind, color would not matter. What matters is that a child is lost and needs to be found. Anyone who has ever lost a child should understand. Good wishes and lots of love and support from the Dorchester community.

  1. My 14 year old stepson was reported missing by his father on a Sunday night, and luckily the boy showed up at his mothers on the following Wednesday. There was a missing person report filed, but thats about it. The police/detectives really didnt seem to pay any attention. They told my husband,"kids run away all of the time." One detective said to me, "what do you want me to do, send every car I got out to search for him." Nice huh. Maybe because he is a teenager they treated it different?? He is white, and I dont think color is really an issue in this case. Its just the way of life. These people dont seem to take missing children seriously. I dont understand.

Posted by soxgirl November 11, 08 08:09 PM
  1. The missing Plainville girl was on the news for three days until the found her, so get your facts right, it shouldn't matter what color you are......when it comes to missing children....just put the story out there.

    Posted by ad821 November 11, 08 08:56 PM
  1. oh my GOD... I'm so sick of everyone playing the race card. THis kid's race had NOTHING to do w/ the fact that it wasn't on the front page. Get over yourselves. Freaking crybabies. Don't worry... you've got your freaking messiah in office now and he will save all "your people".

  1. Thankfully, this youngster has been found safely. For whatever reason, either an AMBER Alert was not requested, or was denied statewide activation by the Massachusetts State Police. Usually, if a child cannot be confirmed abducted, the AMBER system will not be utilized. Each statewide and regional AMBER plan has its own tolerance for "bending" their general activation criteria, and AMBER Alerts will sometimes be issued when an abduction is confirmed with no vehicle involved. Even though this youngster may have not received front page attention on this local station, rest assured that there are people out there far and wide monitoring ALL missing child cases and doing everything within their power to help find them.

  1. To Joanne, post # 32 -- you are a disgusting human being. You should be ashamed of yourself. Feel free to be upset with the outcome of the election, but please, as a fellow member of the human race, please be concerned whenever a child's safety is at risk.

    Posted by David F November 11, 08 09:35 PM
  1. Joanne STFU most of the people playing the race card were not black or"my people" as you like to say. The truth is if it were some white or black kid from Newton or Brookline it would have been all over the media. If your from a economically challenged area you dont really matter thats the way it is, get over yourself. & just cuz mini-bush lost the election there is no need to get hostile....smh

Posted by Mike November 11, 08 09:35 PM
  1. Ok, wow joanne i think that it is you that is playing the 'race' card! honestly, this has nothing to do with the fact that Obama was ELECTED into office and not McCain. By the way, did YOU vote? If not, then don't talk about your disgust for the President Elect! What I want to know why this child wasn't plastered all over the news?!? it is a MISSING CHILD!! yes, thank god that he was found safe, but still? Why wasn't this plastered over the news as a breaking news alert!??!? they broke the news about the girl from Plainville, why couldn't they do it now? Yes, true kids do go missing every day, but still, I remember earlier in the school year that a child was reported missing, when all it was, was that he decided not to go to school and he made up the story about a man at his school or something of the like. Shame on boston.com and other news sites that just filed this story under some misleading story link to click on or rather, under a picture of Giselle and some other random article. Shame on those who are just saying things about his race. Yes it just HAPPENED to be in Dorchester where crime happens multiple times a day. The point of the matter here, is that if there is a child missing, it should be EVERYWHERE to inform the public so that they can help and call in with leads and such. If that girl from Plainville can be put all over the front page for getting DRUNK and then drowning, then this boy can be plastered all over the front page for not returning home from school. This is sad, very sad. But thank God that he was found safe and sound...My next question is, is will boston.com and other news sources report as to why he wasn't at school? or will they just tuck it away for the 4 o'clock news that not many people watch?

    Posted by Ellen O'Meara November 11, 08 09:49 PM
  1. Joanne: If you had any humanity, you would realize that any missing child IS your people. It seems that you're making the issue as much about color as anyone else. As for the election, which clearly remains heavy on your heart: time to move on, just as others did when Bush won over the last 8 years. And get some compassion. If you'd lived in a community where you'd been slighted more often than not, you'd feel differently. You might not see things the same way, but you don't need to be a shrew.

  1. Happy Ending to a scary headline! Where was the kid? That is the real story now! Was he abducted or off getting high? That's what needs to be answered now. Was he a victim or playing hookey.

  1. Can we stop griping here? EVERY child is precious, doesn't matter where they came from, what color/how many $$ the parents have etc. Lots of children go missing for a day or two, most don't make the papers (see post #30). That said, the Globe is ... oh wait, I'm trying not to go there.

Instead of bellyaching about how 'somebody' should fix the situation, how about bringing back values when kids respected adults and adults would question stray kids without risking assault from the parents or being labeled as child stalkers. These days no one wants to get involved -- whatever you do is going to be wrong, so no one wants to look out for anyone else.

The only "correct" thing to do now is wait helplessly for the goverment, just like the liberals want you to. Then when that doesn't work the solution is a more intrusive government reading your email, logging your calls and tracking everything you do.

  1. He probably ran away to smoke some crack... Amber Alerts are for kids in danger that is predisposed or someone seeing the kid being pulled into a van, ect. Geez, pulling the race card so soon...

  1. I was at South Bay yesterday when a picture of this boy was being circulated by police. Black and white officers alike were looking for someone's child with the fear and intensity in their eyes of the parent of a missing child.
