Road closures and other advisories for the week of Nov. 23

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly to avoid peak travel times on Thanksgiving and pay close attention to conditions at Exit 9 in Sturbridge, which connects with I-84 to Connecticut and New York. For those traveling on Wednesday, the best time to leave is early morning or after 8 p.m. Otherwise, drivers should expect traffic to be moving at slow speeds and back-ups at key toll plazas. Similar traffic conditions are likely on Sunday.

To promote safe driving and to give traveling motorists an excuse to rest, McDonald’s and Gulf will provide free coffee at Turnpike service plazas on Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday morning.


Two to three lanes of I-93 south will be closed approaching and through downtown Monday and Tuesday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The Haymarket onramp to I-93 south and the Callahan Tunnel will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The Essex Street onramp to I-93 south will be closed Monday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two to three lanes of I-93 north through downtown and Charlestown will be closed Sunday through Tuesday from 10:30 p.m. (11:30 p.m. tonight) to 5 a.m.

I-93 north Exit #26 to Storrow Drive will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The Sumner Tunnel onramp to I-93 north will be closed Sunday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The Haymarket onramp to I-93 north will be closed Sunday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The Atlantic Avenue onramp to I-93 north will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The Essex Street onramp to I-93 north will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Lanes will be closed on I-90 (MassPike) east at Shaw’s in Newton Sunday and Monday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lanes will be closed on I-90 (MassPike) east near and two miles after the Sheraton in Newton Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The onramp to I-90 west from D Street will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

One lane of I-90 (MassPike) west in the Ted Williams Tunnel will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

For the next several months maintenance crews will be doing repair work on sections of I-90 (MassPike) east and west from the I-90/I-93 interchange in Boston to the New York state line during the day from 7 a.m./ 9 a.m. (depending on location) to 3 p.m. weekdays.

The four lanes on Washington Street and Harrison Avenue are reduced to two lanes traveling on the newly constructed bridge deck. The Harrison Avenue Bridge has been reconfigured to allow two-way traffic.

Lanes will be closed on I-90 (MassPike) east and west near the Prudential Tunnel Sunday through Tuesday from 9 .m. to 5 a.m.

Lanes of I-90 (MassPike) east near the Ted Williams Tunnel will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Sumner Tunnel onramp to Storrow Drive will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sumner Tunnel access to Haymarket will remain open.

One lane of the Sumner Tunnel will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp from Harborside Drive to I-90 west/Ted Williams Tunnel will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  1. This is an obvious day for "whoever our highway deciders are " NOT to do anything on this stretch of road on the day before Thanksgiving. It is awful without this added stupidity by the Highway Department. Who are these morons that we pay too much and provide great benefits the rest of us would die for. ????
