Abuse, self-defense claimed in slaying of boyfriend
By John R. Ellement and Andrew Ryan, Globe Staff
SOMERVILLE -- A woman who was allegedly a longtime victim of domestic abuse told police that she killed her boyfriend over the weekend with a kitchen knife in the midst of another argument, according to a defense attorney and a police report filed today in court.
Kimberly C. Savini, 30, grabbed a knife off of the stove on Saturday afternoon and plunged it into the chest of her boyfriend, Arnaldo Amado, 42.
"Yes, I stabbed him, but he attacked me first," Savini told police, according to the report.
In Somerville District Court, Savini pleaded not guilty to a murder charge and was held without bail. Defense attorney Maria Curtatone pointed to what she described as bruises on her client's neck, chin, and forehead as evidence of chronic abuse. Amado returned home at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday highly intoxicated, Savini told police.
Assistant Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan acknowledged that the couple had a history of domestic violence at their Greenville Street apartment. Neighbors said, however, that Savini was often the aggressor, Ryan said in court.
Savini initially told police that Amado was stabbed outside and then stumbled into their apartment, according to the report. Savini later admitted that she stabbed him in their home and washed the knife, according to the report.
"Kimberly states that the two engaged in a shoving match. At one point Kimberly reached into the kitchen and grabbed a knife that was situated on the oven," according to a summary of a videotaped statement Savini gave to police after her arrest. "Kimberly stated that she pointed the knife at Arnaldo and ordered him to leave. Again he refused. Kimberly stated that she lunged forward and stabbed Arnaldo in his chest on his left side."
Savini grabbed a towel, pressed it to his chest, and tried to stop the bleeding, according to the report. She also called 911.

Well, " Kimberly stated that she lunged FORWARD and stabbed Arnaldo in his chest on his left side."
That isnt self defense
Lock her up. Just because she is a woman, does not mean she is not guilty. Change the gender of this crime and the domestic violence industry would be advocating for more unconstitutional anti-father/man hate laws… Everyone knows that all this woman had to do was to call the police, even if she was the one who was more violent. Plunging a knife into someone's chest is butchery.
"Neighbors said, however, that Savini was often the aggressor, Ryan said in court." This fact goes against all the feminist propoganda. This is nonsense to the domestic violence "industry", women are never the abuser, only men are!
Women have an unfair advantage because of domestic violence laws. I won't comment on this case because I won't assume I know the facts. However I have to agree with the above comments. All a women has to do is file a police report stating that she "fears for her safety" and the police will remove the man permanently from his own house with no proof. My ex used this ploy to get me out of the house to have the upper hand in filing for divorce. I was removed from my own house and never laid a finger on her. What happened to proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
It's nice to see that once again readers have dispensed with the need for a trial or even an investigation, deciding upon guilt or innocence based on a quick read-through of a single news story.
God help the legal system if you ever get jury duty.
Thankyou poster#4, I hear you.
Women CAN be the aggressor sometimes, and what man is going to repeatedly be beaten, degraded, and whatever else before he flips out?? No one should ever use their hands and it takes two to fight, but COME ON!!! Most women who claim to be victims of DV are victims, those who lie and say they are when they are not are , well, just sad head cases who give all women a bad name. However... men CAN ALSO be victims of DV sometimes, too.
Who are any of us to say what happened in this particular case?? Were you there when it happened? Did you see it? If not, then judge not.
Of course people are going to make judgements with a quick read through. Who wouldn't?
If the woman said she lunged forward, its pretty clear she wasn't very innocent in this.
Common sense proves her guilty..
i know her a little, and she is NOT a good mother... always yelling at that poor little baby and miserable. she's into drugs.
this victim is a relative of mine and although i didnt get the chance to meet him i heard many stories about him. He was a shy gentle person and although he might have had a drinking problem he was never a violent person. It is a shame to hear that his death resulted from his own girlfriend stabbing him, we always knew she was violent but never thought it would lead up to this. She's guilty and i hope she is found guilty in court with life in prison to pay for the crime she committed. Her lawyer said she's a good women but does she even know her? She stabbed him without him attacking her because all salvini mentions is that he wouldnt leave anf nothing about hitting her. There are no ifs, buts, and maybes aboutthis case she is guilty point blank
