A 9-year-old boy who was kidnapped this afternoon by two armed men in Mattapan has been found inside Terminal B at Logan airport, officials said this evening. David Encarnacion is safe and unhurt, Officer Eddy Chrispin, a police spokesman, said.
He was found at the airport shortly after 5 p.m., about three hours after he was apparently forced into a 2003 grey Honda Accord, according to Elaine Driscoll, a police spokeswoman.
Driscoll said the entire case – from the boy’s alleged kidnapping on River Street in Mattapan by two men to his recovery at Logan early this evening – is under active investigation and police are not yet sure what sparked the dramatic events.
She said it was not yet clear who the boy was with when he was found by a Boston police officer inside Logan Airport. No one has been charged, but the investigation is ongoing, she said.
“This is a curious situation,’’ Driscoll said of the alleged kidnapping. “Thankfully, the boy is safe. That’s the most important thing. Now, we are trying to fill in the details.’’
Terminal B is open to passengers, but a part of the space is being treated as a crime scene, said Massport spokesman Phil Orlandella.
Police said Encarnacion and an adult were approached by two suspects at about 1:56 p.m. on River Street between Blue Hills Parkway and Fremont Street. A law enforcement source briefed on the investigation said the adult is the boyfriend of Encarnacion’s mother.
The two suspects took the boy at gunpoint and then fled with him in the boyfriend's vehicle, a gray 2003 Honda Accord.
The mother's boyfriend gave conflicting accounts of where the boy's mother is, but police currently believe she is on board a plane heading back to Boston from Puerto Rico.
State police were about to issue a statewide Amber Alert, but canceled plans when the boy was found at Logan, officials said.

If this were to occur ANYWHERE else... there would be an Amber Alert.
Why... is there no Amber Alert? Because it happened in Mattapan?
If this happened in Franklin, Holliston, Milford... Ashland... anywhere.. you can only imagine the alarm and dismay.
In order for these instances to stop, we must stop treating individuals like second class citizens.
Think about it.
A child was abducted at gunpoint and they are not considered to be in imminent danger???? Are you friggin kidding me?? This must be a minority child because if it were a caucasian child it would be nationwide by now. Totally unfair. A human life is a human life regardless of age, race, religion, or orientation. Even though we now have a bi-racial I see there are some things that never change.
That's why molesters pick on minority children the most because they know that the media and law enforcement don't care.
ok so is this a boy or girl..............
heard it was a boy....

Was it a girl or boy kidnapped?!? Headline says "girl." Click on the headline to read story, and the next headline reads "Boy kidnapped." Going to be hard tracking the kid down if you don't know what gender he/she is.
better fix this one, boston.com, so we can help find the little one
Fix the link: it's a boy, not a girl
Your front page says it was a girl. Come to find out the story says it was a boy. Might want to fix that.
Boy or girl? Headlines on front page says Girl Abducted, actual article says boy?
Is it a girl as the headline states or a boy as the article states - is this an Amber Alert - if not, why not? Cna the Globe clarify this and put up an alert sign - this seems serious
Your headline says "girl". Change it to help get the word out to help.
I can't imagine how scary that must have been for the adult and the child...
Wow, I'm glad they found him unhurt. I saw a notice at North Quincy station tonight on my way home from work, I'm glad the boy is alright and safe.
