Lynn father indicted in case of missing 5-year-old son
By Globe Staff
The father of a missing 5-year-old Lynn boy was indicted this afternoon on charges of parental kidnapping and misleading authorities in an ongoing investigation of his son's disappearance.
Ernesto Gonzalez, 36, could face up to 11 years in jail if convicted of both charges.

A spokesman for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said pending child endangerment charges will be dismissed against Ernesto Gonzalez. He will be arraigned on the new charges tomorrow morning in Salem Superior Court.
The grand jury has charged Gonzalez with willfully misleading a person in the furtherance of a continuing investigation and parental kidnapping.
Gonzalez has denied ever having custody of Giovanni on the weekend the boy vanished. But the district attorney's office has determined that Giovanni was seen with his father by witnesses during that weekend in August.
During a jailhouse interview with a Globe reporter on Nov. 26, Gonzalez confessed to stabbing his son to death in his Lynn apartment, dismembering the body, and then discarding the remains in three trash bins around the city.
The extraordinary confession was met with skepticism by authorities, who have yet to find evidence in the apartment that would corroborate Gonzalez's account.

Where was the Globes journalistic "ethics" when they ran the original story about the jailhouse confession?? If they had checked with authorities, including the Lynn Police or the Essex County DA's office, they would have learned that forensic investigations had already tested for the boys blood in his apartment and found none. Instead they run a sensational headline and story that is nothing more than a twisted tale concocted by a disturbed individual. I would have expected that from the Herald where the editorial philosophy is: "If it bleeds it leads". I thought the Globe was better than that.
Oh shut the heck up Don. If you were a reporter and some degenerate SUSPECT who's in JAIL already told you he killed his kid, what would you do?
Ethics? This guy was the last one to be seen with this boy and even if he didn't kill him he should get 11 yrs for being so stupid. Sorry, but something's not right with this guy.
Don,
I think it's unfair, it is news, even if it is not true. Not only that but you are somewhat hypocritical in blasting them for the story but then reading it. Even better you are the 5% of the population that felt compelled to comment on it.
Dan
Don...you thought the Globe was better than that?!?!?! Wow...you obviously have never read the Globe before!
Facts mean nothing to the Globe, they just run whatever they want. And if sensationalism will sell...so be it! Wake up!
Um, Don, the Globe story did include both Lynn Police and the Esx Cty comment, it did say the stuff about no forensic evidence supporting the story, and it did have reax from both his lawyer and the DA who were both shocked and puzzled by the "confession." The story was pretty blanced, actually. Before you go tossing around insults, you might want to make sure you check your facts -- you know, like the newspaper did.
No one cares about this little boy but his Mom. Her pain must be unbearable and for authorities to do nothing for so long. What if he was white would it have made a difference. Where is the outrage that this can simply happen to a child.
From my reading of the initial Globe article, the Globe did not state that this poor boy was stabbed, etc... It was reported that his father SAID he had stabbed him, killing him, but that police had already searched the apartment and that the confession was most likely not true. Reporting the statements of the father, whether or not they are true is appropriate for the Globe and Don's comments are unwarranted. Indeed his comments are are more inflammatory then those he his criticizing.
I don't see anything unethical about reporting Gonzalez's confession. It is important information that, taken along with the police forensic work, reveals that Gonzalez is apparently deliberately misleading authorities. Frankly, even though the evidence is not there, I think the DA should charge him with murder and seek life in prison with no parole. Facing that charge, Gonzalez may have second thoughts about concealing his son's whereabouts.
