Woman, 29, killed in Auburn crash

A 29-year-old woman was killed last night when she apparently lost control of her car and crashed into the woods along Interstate 290 in Auburn.

Jennifer A. Songer of Worcester was driving a 2002 Ford Focus east at 9:40 p.m. when she veered off the road near Exit 9, State Police said in a statement. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her husband, Travis Songer, 29, was trapped inside the car. Rescue crews freed Travis Songer from the vehicle, and he was rushed by ambulance to UMass Medical Center with what police described as serious injuries.

It was not immediately clear whether the Songers were wearing seat belts. This crash remains under investigation by State Police. The Auburn Fire Department, Auburn EMS, and personnel from Mass Highways assisted troopers at the scene. The right travel lane of eastbound I-290 East was closed for approximately three hours after the crash.

This is incredibly sad. My heart goes out to her family and friends during this tragic time. Very tough around the holidays too. I hope the passenger recovers and has friends to help him through this. Very sad.

I Don't know these people personally but it's strange how tragidys like this can make one think. I now Know what my xmas wish this year is. all I want for xmas is for comfort for this family and for NO MORE TRAGIDYsAll Year. Santa You Listening

This is incredibly sad. I heard Jen was 6 months pregnant with a little boy, which is even more heart-breaking. My condolences to the families and especially to Travis.

This is truly unthinkable. My heart and prayers go out to all of the family and the countless friends who are saddened by this tragedy. Such sweet people have been allowed in our lives for too brief a time. PLEASE let us know if there is anything we can do as we pray...
